Access Fund is part of the Aiming High for Disabled Children Grant which ends on 31 March 2011

HealthWORKS Newcastle is now managing this short term project across the west of Newcastle.

This fund aims to remove the simple barriers that prevent a disabled child or young person from taking part in an activity in their community that their non-disabled peers access easily. This can be a day, evening and weekend activitiy that is enjoyable for the child or young person ,while also giving their parent/carer a break from caring. The Scheme runs until March 2011 and anyone with parental consent can apply on behalf of the disabled child or young person

For the purpose of this fund 'disability' means any child or young person with additional support needs living in Newcastle aged 0- 18 years (inclusive) who meets at least one of the following crieria:

  • Child or young person in receipt of higher or middle rate Disability Living Allowance
  • Child or young person subject to a Statement of Special Educational Need or School Action Plus
  • Child or young person with a Common Assessment Framework (CAF)

The fund aims to benefit individuals or groups of disabled children and young people by providing short term support or specialist equipment to ensure children and young people
can participate in local activities. This may include sporting, leisure or recreational and musical activities, participation in local groups or computer equipment.
